At times you may wish to unmake or unmerge a phrase. This might occur if the phrase was incorrectly formed or is not what it is meant in the current context. To unmake a phrase, do the following:
Click the merged source phrase or the phrase adaptation below.
Do one of these things:
On the Tool bar click the Unmake a phrase icon
.
Enter Alt+Delete.
Adapt It places the Phrase box under the first word of the unmerged phrase, restores each pile to its condition before making the merge. If the first position is a hole, Adapt It does the appropriate knowledge base lookup.
If the project contains more than one instance of the phrase, unmaking the current phrase does not affect any of the other instances in this or any other documents in the project.
The knowledge base can hold multiple adaptations for phrases as well as single words. Thus, if your translation requires more than one adaptation for a phrase, you do not need to unmake the phrase. Just edit the current adaptation and click Enter. Adapt It adds the new adaptation to the knowledge base.
You do not need to unmake the phrase if you just want the phrase to include more words. Select the source phrase and the additional words and then edit the text in the Phrase box. Adapt It combines the original phrase with the new words into a new phrase.
