 Lung cancer is the most common fatal malignant neoplasm in the United States.
 Based on current smoking patterns, the substantial public health burden of smoking-related lung cancer will continue during the next several decades.
 This report describes trends in lung cancer incidence from 1980 through 1986 and lung cancer mortality from 1980 through 1987.
